The Wings Flutter, Grasslands are Alive.

The Wings Flutter, Grasslands are Alive is a site-specific installation by Saroj Patel, commissioned by RBG Kew and supported by fynn studio at Wakehurst that ran throughout Summer 2024 at Kew Gardens.

Set in Bloomers Valley, the work features five 3.5m-high gateways adorned with over 700 handsewn flags and bells, inspired by the colours of butterflies, pollinating flowers, and sacred shrines of Gujarat and the Himalayas. Each gateway represents one of the Panch Mahabhoot — Earth, Air, Space, Water, and Fire — reflecting Indian philosophies that connect the human body to the natural world. A shrine to the meadows, it celebrates where plants, pollinators, and people meet.
