Move / 004.

Move / 004 is a series of short art films created by Black female and non-binary LGBTQIA+ voices. Premiering at Tate Modern on 27 September 2024 as part of Tate Lates, the project explored the lived experiences of Black LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary individuals within electronic music and club culture.

Each film is based off a recorded conversation with a member of the community, which was then transformed into a visual work through Black female and non-binary creatives. The result is a set of personal, artist-led responses that reflect different emotional and physical moments of a night out — from the anticipation of getting ready, to the intensity of the dance floor, to the quiet of late-night reflection.

Contributors include a collaborative piece by Imaani Iris and a security guard, composed from 1,000 still images of Colour FactorY, Daisy Gaston, who turned the words of Karen Nyame KG into a cinematic ballet and a tender film celebrating the 10 year anniversary of Bernice Mulenga’s iconic #friendsonfilm series, featuring a conversation with Drybabe and Sippin T hosted by Mulenga.

Produced by fynn studio and supported by Arts Council England, move/004 celebrates and elevates Black queer stories in nightlife and beyond, and is purposed with platforming these stories in major arts institutions.
