move / 002
move / 002 was a week-long exhibition that traced the Black and queer rave experience from the late 1980s to today, through photography, poetry, and archival material. This exhibition was not historical fact, but an exploration of the culture through contemporary art. Curated by DJ/artist SHERELLE in collaboration with fynn studio and supported by her platform BEAUTIFUL and AIAIAI, the exhibition re-centred voices too often excluded from dominant narratives around rave culture.
Held at Open House Hackney, move/002 transformed the space across two floors—documenting four decades of creative influence through intimate photography, written testimony, and installations. Contributors included rave legends Fabio & Grooverider, documented by Dave Swindells in the UK rave scene of late 80s, photographer Bernice Mulenga, whose work captured essential black and queer nightlife spaces like BBZ and Queer Bruk; and emerging artists such as Imaani Iris documenting Rinse FM and Guarionex Rodriguez Jr. who showcased black and queer culture in New York
The exhibition was accompanied by a week of workshops, talks, and mentoring, forming part of the wider BEAUTIFUL x AIAIAI initiative supporting Black and LGBTQI+ artists in electronic music. At its core, move/002 was a celebration of lineage, resilience, and creativity—reclaiming space and reasserting the role of Black and queer communities at the heart of rave.
