Black On The Square.
Black on the Square is the Mayor of London’s flagship celebration of Black culture, held in Trafalgar Square. As cultural advisors and lead curators, fynn studio has shaped the creative direction and public programme since its launch in 2023.
The inaugural edition featured performances from ENNY, BXKS, Touching Bass, and Queer Bruk, alongside dance, spoken word, food stalls, and a Black-owned marketplace—establishing the festival as a joyful, intergenerational celebration rooted in pride and visibility.
In 2024, the festival returned with a sharper, more expansive vision. Headlined by Bashy, and featuring Karen Nyame KG, Kofi Stone, and Shingai, the event embraced music, visual art, workshops, and large-scale public installations. Trafalgar Square became a platform not just for performance, but for collective expression and joy.
Right-wing commentators, including Nigel Farage, called the festival “divisive.” They were wrong. Black on the Square was unifying and necessary—and London turned up to prove it.
Through music, movement, and public gathering, Black on the Square continues to reshape civic space with clarity, confidence, and celebration—exactly as it should. fynn studio will be programming the 2025 edition to be launched in September.
